Entr’acte - New Directions, 2021

Entr’acte, meaning ‘between two acts’ and often associated with the musical number opening Act 2 of a musical, was inspired off of the return to live performance after the pandemic. Throughout the pandemic, many artists had to halt their careers. We not only had to lose the in-person magic of performing arts, but the connection of making that art with others. During the pandemic, many artists turned towards virtual work to still create, but that in-person magic of the arts remained on intermission. In Spring of 2021 when this production occurred, we were able to return to in-person arts, but only outside and masked. We saw this as the beginning to our Act 2, bringing new hope and excitement to artists to collaborate again. Entr’acte tells the story of sorrow away from in-person performing and the hope of returning to make art with others again, even if we aren’t back to where we used to be.
